Akathisia is a serious side effect some brain meds can cause - it literally means "inability to sit" and people enduring it have a powerful restlessness that nothing resolves. I've had it a couple times in emerg getting migraine treatments, and it is INTENSE - I almost ripped an IV out of my arm, and the whole time it felt like it was just me, the real me, under no external influence, happening to decide that I couldn't take it any more - until the infusion of the drug causing it stopped and I realized ohhhhhh no, that was just akathisia.

But sometimes too I feel like it's a fantastic word too for the broader range of unfocused restlessness we all feel from time to time. When I want to run but can't, when I'm homesick for travel but can't leave yet, when I know I need something but I can't figure out what. I don't know what I want to do but I can't just sit still. Akathisia.
